Techniques

Dr. Nelson is dedicated to providing every patient with the best possible care to suit their unique needs. Our approach to chiropractic care is based on a neurological and biomechanical perspective built on a foundation of the most current research. We use a variety of chiropractic methods to treat musculoskeletal conditions, relieve pain, and restore quality and quantity of motion throughout the spine and extremities. To determine the most effective path of treatment, a thorough history is compiled for every patient, including comprehensive physical and neurological exams and a preliminary chiropractic assessment.

Spinal Manipulation - Diversified Technique

Diversified Technique is widely practiced and incorporates a variety of adjustive techniques, mobilizations, stretches, exercises, nutritional supplementation and other aids. The diversified adjustment is characterized by a high-velocity low-amplitude manipulation technique. The objective of Diversified technique is to restore proper motion to the spine and other joints that have been found to be dysfunctional through motion palpation.

Cox Spinal Decompression

Cox spinal decompression technique also known as Flexion and Distraction is a low-force adjustive procedure that slowly stretches out the spine. It can be administered to the Lumbar (lower back) and Cervical (neck) spine for a variety of conditions. This technique is used when clinically indicated to increase posterior disc height, reduce spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), increase metabolite transport into the disc and reduce intradiscal pressure. Cox spinal decompression is effective in treating bulging, slipped, ruptured and herniated discs (without cauda equina syndrome or progressive neurological deficit), facet syndrome, spondylolisthesis, sprain/strain, scoliosis and spinal stenosis.

Thompson Drop Technique

Thompson Drop Technique uses a "segmental drop table" to enhance the motion of the segment or area to be adjusted, most commonly the mid-back, low back and pelvic area. The Thompson Drop Technique is useful when treating rib fixations and Sacroiliac dysfunction.

Activator Adjusting Tool

The Activator Method utilizes a hand-held instrument referred to as an activator. This instrument delivers a very precise adjustment. The Activator Method is a good alternative for people who are sensitive to being touched, have reduced range of motion, whiplash or for those with Osteoporosis or Arthritis. This is one of the more gentle Chiropractic techniques. This technique is also great for children, the elderly or people who do not like the popping sound of getting adjusted.

Extremity Manipulation

Dysfunction due to old sports injuries, overuse or postural imbalance can happen in any joint in the body. This dysfunction can lead to pain in or around the spine even though the root cause is somewhere else. Old injuries in shoulders, knees and ankles can accumulate and progress subtly over years. Chiropractic adjustments and mobilizations can be performed on almost every joint to restore motion. Certain patterns exist in injuries from Motor Vehicle Accidents that include more than just the Cervical spine (neck).

Soft Tissue Techniques

Injuries to the soft tissue can cause joint restrictions by neurologic feedback. Trigger points that form within muscles cause and perpetuate pain by irritating the nervous system. Trigger points may arise from several causes such as acute or chronic muscular overload and direct trauma from work or sports injuries, poor posture and even emotional stress. A variety of soft tissue techniques are used when necessary to break up trigger points and restore function to the supporting musculature.
